For a mid June sailing event was surprisingly good fun. Usually it is calm drifting with little to no prospect of improvement. The forecast was for North East breezes between 2 - 5 knots but when we arrived and set up it was more easterly so we set up at the southern end.

Temperatures were chilly at 16°C but it was a lazy breeze that went right through you. The moments when the sun came out were gold but it remained overcast unfortunately too long. This also became hazardous due to the glare off the lake as we searched for your sail number. Having said all of the above, at least we had a course with enough breeze to hold some fun racing.

212233-20260630233208-0f1125.jpgThere was an amazing fleet of 17 boats registered for the regatta today which is just gold. We had a visitor from Mackay in QLD join us, Mr Rob Black sailed very well and was involved in the National DF95 Titles in NSW back in March. We also had our junior member Josh Henrickson join us after a summer of competitive dinghy sailing. He has matured a great deal and held his own in most races. Many travelled over an hour to be here today. Thank you all for making the effort.

The racing was a challenge, as usual Austin Lake varied the direction of the breezes which meant some races were close to soldier courses and others were filled with tree-influenced calm holes on the racing line. These caught out even the best skippers in many races.
212234-20260630233228-9adb30.jpgWe had 6 different individual race winners during the afternoon which suggests to you that getting to the front and staying there was not easy. In fact, if you deep dive into the results over half the fleet had a podium finish in at least one race. So many quality skippers at work.

For the most part the racing was clean and quick but there were still a few incidents that required a penalty. Congratulations go to Nick Jerwood leading the field with Sean Wallis chasing hard for second position. There was not much between these two all day.

In third spot was Donks, a full race position behind.
